This was the big question that hovered over the Trump administration.
President Trump finally gave his answer.
And Donald Trump made this jaw-dropping announcement about running in 2028.
Supporters like War Room host Steve Bannon say there is a way around the Constitution’s 22nd Amendment and that President Trump can run for a third term.
The liberal media and Democrats routinely attack President Trump as a dictator because Trump waves off these questions about seeking a third term.
But Trump finally addressed the matter in an interview with NBC’s Kristen Welker for Meet the Press.
Welker asked Trump about the Trump Organization selling Trump 2028 hats.
The President said he considered the calls for him to run for a third term a compliment and took it to mean Americans thought he was doing a good job and wanted it to continue.
Trump then said he planned to serve his eight years in office and pass the torch to the next President, whom he hopes will be a Republican.
“I will say this. So many people want me to do it. I have never had requests so strong as that. But it’s something that, to the best of my knowledge, you’re not allowed to do. I don’t know if that’s constitutional that they’re not allowing you to do it or anything else. But, there are many people selling the 2028 hat. But this is not something I’m looking to do. I’m looking to have four great years and turn it over to somebody, ideally a great Republican, a great Republican to carry it forward. But I think we’re going to have four years, and I think four years is plenty of time to do something really spectacular,” Trump stated.
Trump said there have been great one-term Presidents in history, like James Polk, who annexed Texas and the Oregon territory following the Mexican-American War, but that he felt it was important to be a two-term President.
“I’ll be an eight-year president, I’ll be a two-term president. I always thought that was very important, to be honest with you. You know, if you look at President Polk, he was a one-termer and he did some great things, actually. Pretty good president. And I’m not saying you can’t do that. But, there’s something about being a two-term president that was very important to me,” Trump added.
Welker then asked Trump if he supported any plans to amend the Constitution to allow him to run again.
“And just to put a button on it, has anyone in an official capacity presented you with, ‘Sir, here are some ideas by which you could actually get a constitutional amendment?’” Welker wondered.
Trump said supporters had approached him about the idea, “But, I’m not looking at that,” Trump said.
When Welker asked if Trump had any “official meetings” about a Constitutional amendment, Trump again reiterated that he had these four years in office and that was it.
“No. And — and just so you understand, four years is a long time. I have almost four years,” Trump said before telling Welker that the American people elected him to save them from the mess that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris left behind.
