Politics is supposed to stop at the water’s edge.
But in the Trump era, Democrats will stop at nothing.
And Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sided with this foreign country in a fight with Trump.
As American Media Watchdog reports:
Colombia President Gustavo Petro thought he could take the measure of Donald Trump.
Petro initiated a staring contest with Trump when he refused to accept two plane loads of illegal aliens that the United States sent back to Colombia.
Trump wasted no time in showing Petro that trying to flip him the middle finger on the global stage was a seriously unwise choice.
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia. This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people. Petro’s denial of these flights has jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump then informed Petro that he was immediately placing 25 percent tariffs on goods imported from Colombia and that those tariffs would rise to 50 percent by the next week if Petro didn’t comply with accepting the repatriation flights of illegal aliens.
“Emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States. In one week, the 25% tariffs will be raised to 50%,” Trump continued.
Trump also warned Petro that these tariffs were just the beginning and even more punitive measures would be put in place if Petro didn’t back down.
“These measures are just the beginning. We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!” Trump added.
Ocasio-Cortez thought she could spike the football in a fight with Trump and boost her profile ahead of an expected 2028 Presidential campaign by claiming Trump’s tariffs would make the price of coffee and flowers – with Valentine’s Day right around the corner – go up since those are Colombia’s primary exports to the United States.,
“To “punish” Colombia, Trump is about to make every American pay even more for coffee. Remember: *WE* pay the tariffs, not Colombia. Trump is all about making inflation WORSE for working class Americans, not better. He’s lining the pockets of himself and the billionaire class,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on X.
In reality, these tariffs wouldn’t do much to affect the price of Americans’ coffee or Valentine’s Day floral arrangements since America imports around 25 percent of its stock of those two items from Colombia.
Even Petro knew he played a losing hand and capitulated to Trump’s demand to accept the flights of illegal aliens from America in less than 45 minutes.
Other than Petro, Ocasio-Cortez was the only other person to come out of this fight with an egg on their face – not Trump and not Americans sweethearts.
