NFL players once picked a massive fight with Donald Trump with their anti-American National Anthem protests.
Some lessons just get learned the hard way.
And the NFL just made one bad mistake with Donald Trump.
The woke sports media – which is actually more leftwing than the political media – began hounding NFL players about why they performed Trump’s signature dance moves after big plays in the wake of Trump’s election victory.
Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers claimed he saw UFC heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones perform the dance after his win the night before and liked it.
“I’ve seen everyone do it,” Bowers stated. “I watched the UFC fight last night and Jon Jones did it. I like watching UFC, so I saw it and thought it was cool.”
The Raiders team personnel immediately ended the media availability.
ESPN host Stephen A. Smith took issue with the leftist sports media dogging NFL players about why they would do the Trump dance and slammed the NFL for actually issuing a statement saying it wouldn’t ban the Trump dance as the height of absurdity.
“Here’s why I’m p—ed off, that the NFL had to even issue a statement about it. Because celebrations usually don’t warrant that,” Smith declared. “It doesn’t require a response from the league. So why was it necessary this time? You know why? Because we got a bunch of people still living with their heads in the cloud acting like they get to protest every little damn thing. “
Smith argued the NFL shouldn’t even dignify these questions with answers as Trump won the election in landslide fashion so there should be no doubt his support is the mainstream of America.
“This is America. Donald Trump won the election, rather convincingly, I might add…” Smith continued.
Smith said he took issue with the questions about the Trump dance because the media trying to create political controversies in sports to give the woke mob something to protest is what helped re-elect Donald Trump.
“And why am I ticked off? Because it was emblematic of the climate that we’ve been living in for years now, which is why I believe Donald Trump was really elected… woke culture, cancel culture, oh hell yes, that played a role,” Smith remarked.
Smith said Americans showed they were fed up with worrying about offending someone else’s identity so they voted for Trump as the biggest “FU” they could imagine.
“When you got people walking around wondering whether or not they’re echoing the right pronoun. Wondering whether or not that was gonna cost them their job or being PC because, God forbid, your opinion is different than the average folk walking around in America. Lord knows what would happen to you. That’s what America regressed to,” Smith stated,” Smith exclaimed.
Smith said pro athletes were representative of the country and the media would have to get it through their collective heads that there were just as many – if not more – Trump supporters in the world of sports than the general population.
“I got news for you,” Smith warned. “Football players are usually American people. So are basketball players. So are UFC fighters, they got a right to support who the hell they want without the league needing to send in a response.”
But what the media was really mad about was they saw the Trump dance as the ultimate rejection of their years-long campaign to turn pro-sports into another institution controlled by the left.
In 2020, the NFL donated to Black Lives Matter and apologized to Colin Kaepernick for criticism of his kneeling for the national anthem.
And LeBron James, Steve Kerr, and Greg Popovich routinely blasting Trump made it seem like the NBA was a subsidiary of the resistance.
All pro-sports leagues went on strike in August 2020 after a police officer shot the accused sexual predator and kidnapper Jacob Blake in 2020 after Blake came at them wielding a knife.
It looked like sports were leftist because Trump supporters were cowed into silence.
Trump winning the electoral college and the popular vote changed all that.
