Nancy Pelosi may be at the end of her career.

But Pelosi still found herself in the middle of the Democrat Party civil war.

And Nancy Pelosi left Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at a loss for words with one ruthless move.

As Swamp Digest reports:

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez seemed like she was well on her way to increasing her stature within the Democrat House caucus by winning a powerful ranking-member position on a key committee.

She seemed to have the votes secured to win the position and most people assumed she would soon ascend to power and change the face of the Democrat Party forever.

But then Nancy Pelosi swooped in and endorsed the person who Ocasio-Cortez was running against, Rep. Gerry Connolly.

And sure enough, Connolly wound up defeating her in an upset.

Now tensions are boiling over among the Democrats.

Here’s what Slate reported just before the vote took place: “Almost overnight it seemed that AOC had the job sewn up: She secured the support of the majority of the Democratic members on Oversight and was talking to the press about her hopes for the role. But the position is not awarded by a vote of committee members. It’s voted on by the entirety of the House Democratic Caucus.”

This was when it seemed like Ocasio-Cortez was well on her way to victory.

But then Pelosi stepped in and turned the race on its head by whipping up support for Connolly.

The article continues, “That’s where the trouble started. Not one to let a young person ascend quietly, Nancy Pelosi entered the fray. The patron saint of Democratic gerontocracy, 84-year-old Nancy Pelosi is supposedly retired from leadership, but this month, she actively threw her weight behind 74-year-old Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly, who was just diagnosed with throat cancer.”

“Once Pelosi backed Connolly and began making calls on his behalf, the moderate New Democratic Caucus announced it was formally backing Connolly as well. Not to be outdone, the Congressional Progressive Caucus announced it was formally backing Ocasio-Cortez. And the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, in a rare move, threw its weight behind Ocasio-Cortez, too.”

Ultimately, these late endorsements for Ocasio-Cortez were not enough and Connolly ended up winning in a victory for Pelosi and the establishment.

Pelosi has tightened her grip on power with even more sway now than when she was Speaker.

And Pelosi has shown that she’s not afraid to start a civil war to get her way.
