Donald Trump knows family is who he can count on.
That’s why this sudden news took everyone by surprise.
And Lara Trump broke Donald Trump’s heart with this bad announcement.
Donald Trump nominating Marco Rubio to serve as his Secretary of State opened up a vacant Senate seat in the state of Florida.
And the instant frontrunner to fill the seat was Lara Trump.
Lara Trump didn’t deny interest in the gig.
“I know my name has been thrown out there a lot, and I would say that my experience at the RNC has really shown me, you know, serving the American people,” Lara Trump told Fox News Channel’s Maria Bartiromo after the Rubio vacancy became official.
“And if I were tapped for this, serving my home state now of Florida, it’s a great honor and a great responsibility, obviously, but I would love to be able to go forward and do more,” Lara Trump added.
Adding to the intrigue was the rivalry between Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Trump considered DeSantis disloyal for challenging him in the GOP Presidential primary after Trump announced his candidacy.
But the two mended fences and DeSantis endorsed Trump and helped raise money for the campaign.
Trump even considered nominating DeSantis to serve as his Secretary of Defense when it looked like the swamp had Pete Hegseth’s – Trump’s original pick – on the ropes.
DeSantis also wants to run for President again – and the best way to get back in the good graces of the MAGA base was naming Lara Trump as Rubio’s replacement.
And with Lara Trump resigning as co-chair of the Republican National Committee, it only added fuel to the fire that she would get the nod.
But just before Christmas, Lara Trump announced she was withdrawing from consideration for the Senate seat.
“After an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many, I have decided to remove my name from consideration for the United States Senate,” Lara Trump wrote on X.
“I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida,” Lara Trump continued.
Lara Trump did reveal that even though she wouldn’t be seeking the Senate seat in Florida, she did have a big announcement to make about her future.
“I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough. I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned,” Lara Trump stated.
“I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment,” Lara Trump concluded.
DeSantis likely wants to put his own stamp on the Senate seat and appoint someone like Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody to the seat.
So Lara Trump announcing she was no longer seeking the seat was likely a face-saving way out so it didn’t look like DeSantis had ultimately rejected her.
