FBI Director Kash Patel knew he had some explaining to do.
The public was furious.
And Americans wanted answers after Kash Patel made this unthinkable error.
As per Great American Digest reports:
This was not a good look for Kash Patel.
Trump supporters have always had his back since the beginning.
But he made a costly mistake that left Trump supporters hurt and angry.
Kash Patel is doing his best as the Director of the FBI, and no one disputes that, but it is a critically important job and now questions are circulating about whether he’s really up to it.
After the shooting of Charlie Kirk, Patel quickly posted on social media that they had caught the assassin and had him in custody.
But he quickly had to reverse himself soon after as he realized that the person they had in custody was not the shooter, and they ended up having to release them.
This was a big mistake by Patel, who clearly must have felt like he was under pressure to solve the case quickly.
But his job is to make sure things are done right, no matter how much pressure he is under, and that isn’t what happened.
Trump supporters were not thrilled about Patel’s actions, and there is controversy that is starting to bubble up around him.
According to Politico, “It’s never a good idea for the FBI director to wrongly suggest that a criminal suspect has been caught — but for Kash Patel, the moment was especially ill-timed.”
“On Wednesday evening, as the investigation into the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk unfolded in Utah, Patel bungled one of his first messages to the public. He prematurely seemed to declare that the shooter had been captured.”
The fact that the shooter hadn’t actually been captured yet wasn’t Patel’s fault. The event itself had light security, which allowed the shooter to escape with relative ease.
But where Patel really messed up was jumping to conclusions before he had all the facts, seemingly in an effort to please the public, who wanted justice for the person who committed the crime.
The article continues, “Patel’s blunder came at a time when the embattled director was already under scrutiny from all sides of the political spectrum — and from many current and former agents in the bureau itself. Even though Patel was President Donald Trump’s hand-picked choice to lead the bureau, some MAGA influencers have quickly soured on him for his handling of the files of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.”
“Commentators on the far right immediately seized on Patel’s rushed suggestion that the shooter had been caught.”
Patel should have taken a bit more time to make sure he had the right information and then posted it on social media.
Catching the shooter certainly was a time-sensitive matter, but posting about it on social media wasn’t time-sensitive at all, and slowing down and getting it right would have been in order.
Patel is trying the best that he can, but he is more inexperienced than most people who hold this job, and that seems to be a problem.
Perhaps he can turn it around, but right now, some people are upset at him.
