Joe Biden held his first Cabinet meeting in nearly a year.
It got off to an eyebrow-raising start when Joe Biden announced that First Lady Jill Biden – who no one elected – would run the meeting.
“Here and across previous administrations, first ladies have attended these meetings for specific reasons. This is the first time Jill has joined us, and it goes to show how important the issue is, which she is about to speak to,” Joe Biden stated.
“It’s all yours, kid,” Joe Biden added.
The optics of the first lady leading the government are bad enough. But when this image of Jill Biden running a Cabinet meeting comes after Joe Biden spent two months largely in hiding after Democrats forced Biden to drop out of the race following his senile performance at the June 27 debate, Americans were left wondering if what amounted to a coup didn’t just take place. This Cabinet meeting wasn’t a one-off. Jill Biden flexed her political muscles at the Clinton Global Initiative where she announced a $500 million women’s health initiative. “Our nation is home to the best health research in the world, yet women’s health is understudied and research is underfunded,” Biden exclaimed. “And we still know too little about how to effectively prevent, diagnose, and treat a range of health conditions in women, from heart disease to cancers.” Jill Biden was reportedly the one who fought the hardest for Joe Biden to stay in the race after Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama tried to force him to drop out. And her stepped-up role raises real questions about the functionality of the American government. The Constitution set up a government where three branches of government exercise checks and balances on one another. There is no check or balance on the first lady as the vice president and Cabinet can’t remove her via the 25th Amendment. And Congress can’t impeach the first lady.
