The Democrat Party doesn’t want to come to grips with what happened in November.
But liberals got some bad news.
And a key Democrat forced his party to swallow one tough truth about Trump.
As Liberal Hack Watch reports:
James Carville got Bill Clinton elected president in 1992 by coming up with the slogan “It’s the economy, stupid.”
The meaning was voters’ number-one issue was the economy and the campaign would tailor every message to focus on Bill Clinton feeling the voters’ pain about the sluggish economy.
In an op-ed written in The New York Times, Carville admitted Democrats lost sight of that reality and that Kamala Harris instead centered her campaign message on abortion on demand.
“And there’s so many other things that you can frame as economic issues. But every day you go to the grocery store, you go to the drugstore, you go to the gas station, you go online, you have 40, you know, economic interactions every day, and you just can’t remove that from people’s lives, you just can’t do it. And we’ve tried and I’ve tried to work around and I’ve said, well, maybe more money and better surrogates and more storefront field organizations can make up for it. And I was wrong,” Carville stated.
CNN’s Michael Smerconish interviewed Carville about that column and relayed a stunning reaction from one of Carville’s fellow Democrats.
This Democrat actually claimed Trump’s election meant Americans no longer cared about character in a president.
“Character, honesty, decency, intelligence, democracy. None of these seem to matter in our country when electing a president,” Smerconish recounted the Democrat saying.
Without a hint of irony, Carville readily agreed with that statement.
“I totally agree with that person. It’s very depressing. But if you’re doing political strategy, you know, if you have an airplane crash, you’ve got to go back and find out what went wrong. You don’t say, well, let’s just forget about it and move on,” Carville declared.
Democrats defended Bill Clinton against credible allegations of rape and sexual assault leveled by Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey.
Democrats then voted to acquit Clinton even though he lied under oath about his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
And yet Carville actually went along with the lie that Republicans were the ones who tossed aside character counting for a president.
But Carville did admit that Democrats only talked to voters about issues Democrats cared about like abortion and January 6.
“No, was the flap set in the right setting or, you know, was there something that the pilot didn’t pay attention to? I don’t know, but it is sort of depressing. But, you know, Michael, there’s the simple, basic rule of politics is voters want an election about them,” Carville continued.
An election is about making voters’ lives better, a fact Democrats forgot but Donald Trump never did as his central campaign themes were about securing the border and bringing down inflation.
“They don’t want an election about you or your opponent. And for too much, we lost that. I lost it myself. We made it about Trump and we didn’t make it about voters. And that’s all. It’s never a good idea,” Carville added.
And Carville said if Democrats didn’t internalize this message, they would find themselves in this same spot four years from now.
“And how could I, at 80 years old, been doing this for 50 years, lapse into that level of stupidity? You know, I’ve got to ask myself. But I think we did. And, you know, let’s learn from this. It’s a disaster. I agree, it’s depressing, but to have an event like this and not learn from it, I think is the biggest mistake we can make,” Carville warned.
