Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is freaking out on social media over a proposed Warner Bros. Discovery sale to Paramount Skydance.
What has Warren losing her mind is the fact that Warner Bros. Discovery owns CNN, and pro-Trump billionaires Larry Ellison and his son David run Paramount Skydance.
Warren is worried Democrats will lose control over a trusted media ally if the sale to Paramount goes through.
Democrats saw how Elon Musk’s 2022 purchase of Twitter and the end of its censorship protocols eliminated one of the left’s big political advantages.
In a free speech environment, Democrats couldn’t compete with Donald Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election.
Because Paramount is a movie studio and also owns CBS, federal regulators would have to approve a purchase of Warner Bros. Discovery due to rules about media conglomerations.
The New York Post’s Charles Gasparino reports that Paramount buying Warner Bros. Discovery would sell through because of the Ellisons.
“A Trump official tells @nypost that the administration favors Paramount Skydance to buy Warner Bros. Discovery – and several rival bidders are likely to face stiff hurdles from US regulators in the blockbuster auction. “Who owns Warner Bros. Discovery is very important to the administration,” a senior Trump administration official told On The Money. “The Warner board needs to think very seriously not just on the price competition but which player in the suitor pool has been successful in getting a deal done. And that points to the Ellisons,” Gasparino wrote on X.
Trump believes that Ellison will perform the turnaround operation at CNN that he did after purchasing CBS, where Ellison installed management that sought to clamp down on liberal media bias.
“And in his thinking, Larry Ellison, the billionaire Trump donor who is co-founder of software giant Oracle, is the perfect vehicle to set CNN straight,” Gasparino reported in the New York Post.
“Specifically, Trump wants the Ellisons to do to CNN what they are doing with their CBS subsidiary after hiring Bari Weiss, the right-of-center columnist who is under orders to squeeze left-wing bias out of its news programming,” Gasparino added.
The left’s hammerlock on legacy media institutions is one of the Democrat Party’s political aces in the hole.
Losing control of CNN means Democrats lose control of another narrative-shaping entity.
And Democrats are panicked that it will come back to bite them in the 2026 midterm election.
