It takes a lot to shock Bill Maher.
But that’s exactly what just happened.
And Bill Maher got blindsided by this sex scandal bombshell.

Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz seemed like his goose was cooked when the deep state leaked in 2022 that he was the subject of a sex trafficking investigation involving allegations Gaetz slept with a 17-year-old girl.
The investigation closed with the Biden Justice Department exonerating Gaetz.
Yet these false accusations were enough to sink Gaetz’s chances at winning confirmation to be Donald Trump’s Attorney General.
Bill Maher pressed Gaetz about these allegations on an episode of Maher’s Club Random Podcast.
“People want to know two basic things. One. Was he ever with an underage girl?” Maher asked.
Gaetz’s answer was simple and to the point.
“No,” Gaetz responded.
Maher picked up on that thread.
Gaetz was one of Donald Trump’s biggest supporters in Congress.
And Gaetz also helped lead the fight to debunk the hoax that Donald Trump incited an insurrection on January 6.
Maher reasoned that if there was even a speck of evidence prosecutors could use to tie Gaetz to these allegations, Gaetz would be wearing leg irons and an orange jumpsuit.
“If the justice Department had any evidence. People were going to attack me. What are you doing? I’m not defending Matt Gaetz. I’m telling the truth as to what it is. If you don’t want to hear the truth. You’re the hack,” Maher stated.
Maher then brought up the fact that Gaetz was accused of sex trafficking by supposedly meeting women on the dating website “Seeking Arrangements.”
“The Justice Department, this is Biden’s justice Department. Declined. I can’t believe Biden’s Justice Department wouldn’t have wanted to get you if there was something. So the fact that they said we got nothing. Tells me something. That they had nothing. Said you met women on ‘Seeking Arrangements,’’” Maher added.
That’s where Gaetz had to point out that Maher fell for fake news.
“Seeking arrangements, came out with a statement that said Matt Gates has never been on our site. He’s never had a profile here. He has never met any women on our site,” Gaetz replied.
Maher told Gaetz that the news stories covering this supposed scandal only covered the allegations that Gaetz paid women for sex that he met on this website and never included the fact it turned out to be completely made up.
“I never read that in the stories about you. Which absolutely could be because they left it out. Because they do it all the time. It’s one of my biggest complaints about the media is that I never, you know, you say you’re not lying. Well, you know what? You can also lie by omission. You cherry pick both sides doing you. I have to read both sides to feel like I have any knowledge of anything. And that’s just sucks,” Maher declared.
Matt Gaetz ended up being the victim of a years’ long smear campaign that wrecked his chances to serve as Attorney General and forced him to resign from Congress.
And it was all based on a lie that the media helped spread by omitting all the exculpatory evidence.
