Barack Obama likes to present himself as a man who always keeps his cool.
After this defeat, Obama couldn’t help himself.
And that’s because the Supreme Court ruling that could erase 20 Democratic House seats has Barack Obama furious.

The Supreme Court ruled 6-3 in Louisiana v. Callais that Louisiana unconstitutionally drew a racial gerrymander to create a majority black district under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
“Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 was designed to enforce the Constitution, not collide with it. Unfortunately, lower courts have sometimes applied this Court’s §2 precedents in a way that forces States to engage in the very race-based discrimination that the Constitution forbids,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote in the majority opinion.
For decades, Democrat judges forced red states to create majority-minority districts specifically so Democrats could win them.
This ruling opened the door for red states to file suit to draw new maps before the November election and draw new, fair maps which could erase as many as 20 Democrat-held seats created by illegal racial gerrymanders.
Losing these 20 seats could block Democrats from seizing back power in the midterms.
Barack Obama led the rage parade on the left, ranting that the court allowed Republicans to gerrymander themselves control of the House.
“Today’s Supreme Court decision effectively guts a key pillar of the Voting Rights Act, freeing state legislatures to gerrymander legislative districts to systematically dilute and weaken the voting power of racial minorities – so long as they do it under the guise of ‘partisanship’ rather than explicit ‘racial bias,’” Obama posted on X.
“And it serves as just one more example of how a majority of the current Court seems intent on abandoning its vital role in ensuring equal participation in our democracy and protecting the rights of minority groups against majority overreach,” Obama added.
But just one week prior, Obama cut a TV ad for a Democrat-led redistricting referendum in Virginia, which allowed Democrats to gerrymander the state to gift themselves 91 percent of the commonwealth’s Congressional seats despite Donald Trump winning 46 percent of the vote in 2024.
“By voting yes, you have a chance to do something important,” Obama said in the ad. “Not just for the commonwealth, but for our entire country. By voting yes, you can push back against the Republicans trying to give themselves an unfair advantage in the midterms. By voting yes, you can take a temporary step to level the playing field. And we’re counting on you.”
Kamala Harris also whined about the ruling.
“Today’s Supreme Court ruling guts the Voting Rights Act and turns back the clock on the foundational promise of equality and fairness in our election systems,” Kamala posted on X.
“Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act was one of the last remaining federal protections for Black and brown voters against maps deliberately drawn to dilute their political power. That protection has been stripped away,” Kamala continued.
Conservatives pointed out that this whole episode showed Democrats don’t oppose gerrymandering and that what Democrats mean by “fair maps” guarantees they win elections.
