Nancy Pelosi’s rivalry with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez simmered for years.
It’s reaching a boiling point.
And Nancy Pelosi declared war on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez with this announcement.
As American Media Watchdog reports:
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is Trying to Gain More Political Power
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been trying very hard to ascend the ranks of power, but her efforts have been rebuffed by the leaders of the Democratic Party in Washington, D.C.
First, she was rejected when she tried for a powerful committee ranking member position, and now Nancy Pelosi is denying that she is one of the most important players during the shutdown fiasco.
Ocasio-Cortez has had a lot to say during this government shutdown, and some reporters have taken that to mean she is a serious player.
But Pelosi apparently does not believe that she needs to be taken particularly seriously.
When asked about it, Pelosi strongly downplayed Ocasio-Cortez’s importance in a way that won’t make the young congresswoman look good.
It’s clear that the only real way for Ocasio-Cortez to ascend to power is by mobilizing her radical progressive base in a Democratic primary.
Pelosi and others are a bit fed up with her shenanigans and aren’t ready to just hand the party to her.
Nancy Pelosi is Standing in Her Way
According to Yahoo! News, “Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) rebuked a reporter for asking if Republicans should negotiate with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) to end the ongoing government shutdown on Wednesday.”
The reporter asked: “There was a thought from the Republicans that AOC is directing this, and she said that senators are welcome to go to her office directly. Is she driving that?”
Pelosi said in reply: “She is not directing this. She’s wonderful, she’s a real team player, and the rest of that. You started by saying Republicans say that she’s directing this. She is not, Hakeem Jeffries is, and this takes a lot of experience, a lot of unity from the caucus in terms of the point of view, and that’s what this is.”
Despite her calling Ocasio-Cortez “wonderful,” which might have been a bit tongue-in-cheek, Pelosi does not want her to be viewed as a major player.
She wants people to focus on Hakeem Jeffries and not be so obsessed with giving attention to Ocasio-Cortez.
The article continues, “Late last year, it was revealed that Pelosi worked ‘to tank’ Ocasio-Cortez’s bid to become the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.”
There appears to be no love lost between Pelosi and Ocasio-Cortez, as Pelosi is an old-school liberal who shares many of the same progressives views as the “Squad” but is more institutional.
Ocasio-Cortez, on the other hand, has the same radical outlook as the other “Squad” members and wants to radically overhaul the American system of government to match her socialist beliefs.
Pelosi is not going to roll over and let Ocasio-Cortez take control of the Democratic Party despite her support from grassroots socialists.
Ocasio-Cortez is going to have to find another way to seize the reins of power against the wishes of Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest of the Democrat establishment.
