Megyn Kelly left Fox News for NBC only to get fired within a year.

Kelly’s career looked to be over.

Now Kelly is one of the most popular podcasters in all of America.

The New York Times’ Lulu Garcia-Navarro interviewed Kelly about her comeback, which naturally focused on a career inflection point – Kelly’s feud with Donald Trump in the 2016 election – which led to Kelly leaving Fox News in the first place.

It all began with her opening question to Donald Trump at the first 2016 GOP Presidential primary debate.

“You’ve called women you don’t like fat pigs, dogs, slobs, and disgusting animals,” Kelly said to Trump.

Trump joked that he was only talking about Rosie O’Donnell, a line which brought down the house and defused the controversy.

But Trump then went on to boycott Fox News for several weeks and relentlessly hammered Kelly on social media.

Kelly claimed she needed an armed guard even when her family went on vacation to Disney World.

However, Kelly later admitted she voted for Trump in 2020 and endorsed Trump onstage at a rally in Pennsylvania just prior to the election.

Garcia-Navarro asked Kelly how she could support Trump after what she said he put her through.

Kelly said the events of the 2024 campaign changed her perspective on Trump, saying Trump’s instincts as a fighter won her over like they did tens of millions of Americans.

“I’ve been very public about thinking he went too far. That’s how I felt at the time, and if I could go back and undo it, I would. But I have a better perspective on why it happened now. It was actually an important piece of his rise within the Republican Party in the primary, and it just showed people what a fighter he was,” Kelly stated.

Kelly said Trump standing up and shouting “Fight! Fight! Fight!” after getting shot in the head at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, was the same instinct that drove his feud with her in 2016 and she came to respect how Trump would fight until he got what he wanted.

“The same guy who got up bloodied in Butler, Pennsylvania, was the guy who was like a dog with a bone with me, who wouldn’t let it go. He’s got this fighter instinct and if you cross him or if you do something he finds unjust, he will stay on you until he’s satisfied the thing’s been resolved to his satisfaction,” Kelly added.

Kelly said the decision to endorse Trump was easy as her top issues were keeping men out of women’s sports and securing the border – two policies Trump made an immediate priority upon taking office.

“I want someone who will close the border, which he has,” Kelly said. “I want someone who will keep boys out of my daughters’ sports, which he has.”
