President Trump is facing the biggest test of his time in office.
Trump finally got the fight he asked for.
And John Kennedy told Sean Hannity about the one bold move Donald Trump should make.
Donald Trump has argued since first becoming a public figure in the 1980s that foreign countries have been ripping America off on global trade.
After winning the 2024 election, Trump was finally in a position to do something about what he called the foreign cheating on trade.
President Trump imposed global tariffs to rebalance the trade scales.
Republicans grew nervous worrying about potential inflation and economic slowdowns.
In the Oval Office, Trump told reporters this was the country’s one chance to set up a fair trade system that would finally benefit American workers.
Trump noted the number of factories that closed following the disastrous NAFTA deal.
“90,000 plants and factories since NAFTA, which was, by the way, the worst trade deal ever, ever developed, ever had by any country anywhere. NAFTA. And I terminated NAFTA,” Trump told reporters.
And a group of Republican Senators recently sat for an interview with Sean Hannity to discuss the tariffs.
Among them was Louisiana’s John Kennedy.
Kennedy said most Americans would agree with Trump’s thesis that foreign nations had exploited trade deals to rip America off.
“I want to say a word, though, about tariffs because that’s sort of the fourth leg of this stool,” Kennedy began. “I think most fair-minded people would agree with this.”
And Kennedy said most Americans would also agree with President Trump taking a stand against unfair trade practices.
“Other countries have used trade barriers to take advantage of the American people and American businesses. Number two, President Trump has said ‘Enough,’” Kennedy continued.
Kennedy explained that had past Presidents done their job, President Trump wouldn’t feel the need to impose these tariffs.
But now as many as 70 countries are banging on the door and begging to negotiate.
“We would not be in this situation today had he not been a Pitbull. By that, I mean there are 195 countries in the world, and 70 are begging him to make a deal to lower tariffs,” Kennedy stated.
Kennedy compared President Trump to the dog who caught the car and told Sean Hannity that his advice for Trump would be to cut the best trade deals for American workers to clinch the victory.
“He’s like the Pitbull, though, who caught the car,” Kennedy remarked.
“I don’t know what the president’s going to do next … I hope he takes a deal. I hope he and Scott Bessent go to every one of those countries and reduce those tariffs and trade barriers down to zero and let American businesses compete with those foreign businesses. Competition makes us better.”
That was exactly President Trump’s mentality.
In the Oval Office, Trump told reporters he was willing to sweat some short term pain for the long term benefit now that foreign leaders were pleading with him to renegotiate their trade deals.
“Now, I don’t mind going through it because I see a beautiful picture at the end. But we are making tremendous progress with a lot of countries. And the countries that really took advantage of us are now saying, please negotiate,” Trump declared.
