2025 Battleground

J.D. Vance and Gavin Newsom Throwdown Could Be a 2028 Preview

California Governor Gavin Newsom is the frontrunner to win the Democratic Party nomination.

If so, Newsom may not like what he finds.

And that’s because J.D. Vance hit Gavin Newsom like a ton of bricks with this reality check.

As Great American Digest reports:

2026 kicked off with a massive expose by journalist Nick Shirly about the hundreds of millions of dollars that Somalis scammed from American taxpayers by running fraudulent childcare centers.

Vance discussed this scandal and the administration’s response in an interview with Fox News Channel’s Jesse Watters.

“The Democrats have a little bit of a Somali problem,” Vance chuckled. “America has a bit of a Somali problem.

Watters then asked Vance why Democrats in Minnesota allowed this fraud to run rampant on their watch.

Vane then recited the jaw-dropping fact that 85 per cent of Somalis in the United States – both legally and illegally – were on welfare.

“Well, a couple of things, Jesse. First of all, if you look at the amount of fraud in the welfare system, according to the statistics I have seen, 85% of Somalians who are in the United States, legal and illegal, are collecting some welfare benefits. So that’s not to disparage the other 15%, but when you’ve got 85% of the population that is collecting welfare, that suggests that we have really done something wrong with regards to vetting, and that’s the fundamental issue,” Vance stated.

Democrats flood Americans with low-income Somali migrants because the deal was that they could bilk welfare programs in exchange for votes.

Vance told Watters that the investigation into Somali welfare fraud would extend beyond Minnesota and into other blue states like Gavin Newsom’s California.

“Even if there’s no fraud, 85% collecting welfare is way too many damn people collecting welfare, getting rich off the American taxpayer, while a lot of Americans struggle. That’s unacceptable. What’s going on in Minneapolis, I think, is actually representative of a broader fraud scheme that we are going to see all over the country – we’re going to see it in California, we’re going to see it in other places too – where people get rich from the American taxpayer—the Somalian fraud, for example. Day care fraud,” Vance continued.

Vance subsequently announced the administration was creating a new assistant attorney general position to investigate welfare fraud in the United States.

“This is the person who is going to make sure we stop defrauding the American people,” Vance said during a White House press briefing.

This position is Senate-confirmable and avoids any appointment clause issues that led courts to reject criminal charges brought by a special counsel.

It also means that any criminal wrongdoing discovered in California would take centre stage in the 2028 debate if Newsom and Vance win their parties’ respective Presidential nominations.
