Donald Trump’s closing in on revealing who he will pick as his running mate.
The choice could swing the election.
And Donald Trump made one VP announcement that the swamp is going to hate.
Now that Trump is the presumptive Republican Party nominee for President, he’s facing a major decision about who will fill out the ticket.
Radio host Hugh Hewitt tried to draw that selection out of Trump during an interview by giving his own thoughts on whom Trump should pick.
Hewitt – an establishment-friendly conservative – suggested Trump pick former CIA Director and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR), or Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA).
“All right, Mr. President, let’s turn to vice president. For the first time in years, the vice president might actually matter, because people are going to weigh that into their calculation. It’s not going to get you a state, not going to get you a demographic. My short list is Cotton Ernst Mike Pompeo, or maybe Doug Burgum. Have you made, have you got down to a list that you can put out there of people you’re thinking about? Are those four on it?” Hewitt asked Trump.
Hewitt believes Trump needs to reach out to Nikki Haley voters and warmongers in the GOP since Trump opposes new funding for the war in Ukraine and wants to pursue an America First foreign policy.
But none of Pompeo, Cotton, or Ernst inspires much enthusiasm among Trump supporters.
All three are pro-Deep State and support the type of illegal warrantless spying the FBI used to target Trump.
Pompeo, Cotton, and Ernst are also all on board with rubber stamping a blank check for Ukraine funding while allowing Joe Biden to keep the border open.
Trump wisely avoided saying those three were on his Vice-Presidential shortlist, but Trump did give a window into his thinking by telling Hewitt he was looking for a Vice President ready to fight tooth-and-nail against the weaponized justice system that Democrats were sure to unleash against them, as well as all the hoaxes the Democrats and the media would cook up to smear them.
Trump also said his running mate would need to add to the ticket’s “electoral appeal” so Trump could win an overwhelming victory and avoid a repeat of 2020.
“I have. I mean, I have a list. I think really, you know, it’s a question I get so much. The first question is how do you take it? How do you do it with all these fake investigations? How do you do it? The second question I get is vice president, who’s it going to be? Who’s it going to be? And the third question, and usually it’s actually the second, will they do it again, meaning cheat? And that one’s a simple one. They’re going to try like hell. And we think we’ve got them checkmated, but we’ll see what happens. But it’s a disgrace. One way you win is if you just swamp them, you know? You swamp them, there’s nothing they can do. And that’s what I think is going to happen with this election,” Trump told Hewitt.
Trump called conservative Ohio Senator J.D. Vance a “fighter” in the past.
Vance is also the Senator most closely aligned with Trump’s MAGA agenda in the Senate.
Recent reports also indicated Vance is high up on Trump’s shortlist.
Vance’s ideological alignment, fighting disposition, and Midwest background – the election will likely be decided by who wins Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin – mark Vance as a strong Vice-Presidential pick.
