President Trump announced the U.S. military successfully carried out an operation to capture Venezuela’s communist dictator, Nicolas Maduro.
“The United States of America has successfully carried out a large-scale strike against Venezuela and its leader, President Nicolas Maduro, who has been, along with his wife, captured and flown out of the Country. This operation was done in conjunction with U.S. Law Enforcement. Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M. at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” Trump posted to Truth Social.
President Trump previously authorized covert CIA operations in Venezuela.
Attack Apache and CH-47 helicopters provided air cover for American personnel to snatch Maduro into custody and return him to the United States.

President Trump previously threatened to remove Maduro from power over Maduro’s government trafficking drugs and illegal aliens into the United States.
The Trump administration’s National Security Strategy previewed this move, declaring the United States would reassert the Monroe Doctrine to police its own hemisphere.
“After years of neglect, the United States will reassert and enforce the Monroe Doctrine to restore American preeminence in the Western Hemisphere, and to protect our homeland and our access to key geographies throughout the region,” the National Security Strategy read.
This past July, Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the Trump administration didn’t recognize Maduro as the legitimate leader of Venezuela after Maduro stole the 2024 election.
“Maduro is NOT the President of Venezuela, and his regime is NOT the legitimate government. Maduro is the head of the Cartel de Los Soles, a narco-terror organization that has taken possession of a country. And he is under indictment for pushing drugs into the United States,” Rubio posted on X.
On November 29, President Trump announced that he had closed the airspace over Venezuela.
“To all Airlines, Pilots, Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers, please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY. Thank you for your attention to this matter! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP,” Trump wrote on X.
In a December 17 Truth Social post, Trump revealed America imposed the largest naval blockade in history to choke off Venezuela’s oil economy.
“Venezuela is completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America,” Trump stated,
“It will only get bigger, and the shock to them will be like nothing they have ever seen before — Until such time as they return to the United States of America all of the Oil, Land, and other Assets that they previously stole from us,” Trump continued.
Maduro refused to surrender.
And President Trump finally made the call to arrest Maduro and remove him from power.
