Ever since President Trump took office, leftwing activists rush to the nearest Democrat judge to file suit every time Trump issues an executive order.
This led to an Alice in Wonderland scenario where unelected city judges declare themselves superior to the President of the United States and issue orders that align with their ideology as opposed to the law.
The latest example came when Democrats sued after the Trump administration announced it couldn’t pay out SNAP welfare benefits due to Democrats shutting down the government.
A government shutdown means the government shuts down.
And that means no welfare payments.
In stepped an outlaw Democrat judge to rewrite the Constitution to anoint themselves as a super legislature.
POLITICO reports that “U.S. District Judge John McConnell Jr.’s oral order Friday came just before the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, the nation’s largest anti-hunger program, is set to run out of money this weekend. Trump administration officials have not yet indicated whether they will appeal the ruling.”
Congress passed a law saying the government could spend money on SNAP welfare in emergency situations.
But that law was meant to apply to actual emergencies like natural disasters.
A government shutdown is a choice made by a political party.
President Trump issued a response that many conservatives saw as clever.
Trump and his staff know a Democrat city judge has no power to demand that the President spend money Congress never appropriated.
Outright defiance, however, would create bad optics. Democrats and the media would claim Trump is starving Americans before Thanksgiving by refusing to comply with a court order.
Rather, Trump simply threw up his hands and said his lawyers would ask this judge how to lawfully spend money that Congress never approved.
“Our Government lawyers do not think we have the legal authority to pay SNAP with certain monies we have available, and now two Courts have issued conflicting opinions on what we can and cannot do,” Trump began in a post on Truth Social.
“I do NOT want Americans to go hungry just because the Radical Democrats refuse to do the right thing and REOPEN THE GOVERNMENT. Therefore, I have instructed our lawyers to ask the Court to clarify how we can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible,” Trump added.
“It is already delayed enough due to the Democrats keeping the Government closed through the monthly payment date, and even if we get immediate guidance, it will unfortunately be delayed while States get the money out. If we are given the appropriate legal direction by the Court, it will BE MY HONOR to provide the funding, just like I did with Military and Law Enforcement Pay,” Trump concluded.
Trump’s post shifted the focus back and put front and center to the American people that these rogues in black robes were issuing lawless orders.
