Democrats were shaking their head in disbelief.
The left watched one of their rising stars implode.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez walked into one trap that ended very badly for her.

In a CNN town hall with Vermont Socialist Senator Bernie Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) committed the classic definition of a gaffe in Washington – Ocasio-Cortez told the truth when she wasn’t supposed.
Democrats claimed they shut down the government to force President Trump to the bargaining table on expiring Obamacare subsidies.
Republicans argued the Democrats’ real goal was funneling taxpayer money to pay for illegal aliens’ healthcare.
CNN’s leftwing host Kaitlan Collins pressed Ocasio-Cortez on this point, teeing up the question so Ocasio-Cortez could swat it out of the park with a forceful denial.
“Do you think undocumented immigrants should have access to federally funded healthcare?” Collins asked.
Ocasio-Cortez responded by confirming that, yes, in fact, Democrats do want to provide illegal aliens free taxpayer-funded healthcare.
“I believe personally that healthcare is a human right. I believe that every person should be able to go to the doctor,” Ocasio-Cortez stated.
Collins gave Ocasio-Cortez one more chance to walk back the idea that Democrats want to yank money out of the pockets of American taxpayers to fund healthcare for illegal aliens.
“But if you could choose, do you believe [the law should be changed, allowing illegal aliens to have free healthcare]?” Collins followed up.
Ocasio-Cortez reaffirmed that she believed in socialized medicine, where taxpayers picked up the tab for illegal aliens’ healthcare.
“Pardon?… I believe in a single-payer healthcare system. Where, if you go in and need a doctor, you can get the medical attention you need,” Ocasio-Cortez confirmed.
This exchange was particularly humiliating for Collins.
Collins argued time and again with Republicans like Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) that they were lying about how Democrats wanted to hand out free healthcare to illegal aliens.
Kaitlan Collins: “I’m just saying that the point about giving people who are here illegally, health care, is not exactly what is in their proposal.”
Speaker Johnson: “No, it is — it is 100 percent what their proposal —”

Making this exchange all the more troubling for Democrats is that Ocasio-Cortez is likely to run for President in 2028 as the avatar of the Democrat Party’s socialist base.
That means Ocasio-Cortez is going to force Democrats to stand on a debate stage and declare if they support taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens.
Given Ocasio-Cortez’s popularity with the base, it’s likely no Democrat will disagree, meaning the party will commit a self-inflicted wound that is sure to be the focus of the GOP’s General Election messaging.
