Nancy Pelosi Just Made a Move That Could Blow Up the California Democrat Primary

Nancy Pelosi has spent decades building a political machine that decides who gets ahead in the Democrat Party.

But one rising Democrat refused to bow to her, and that set off a firestorm.

And Nancy Pelosi just declared war on one rival over a reason that has stunned Democrats.

On the surface, California State Senator Scott Wiener is the kind of woke liberal that Pelosi would normally be happy to see in Congress.

That’s not the case at all in this race.

Pelosi deployed her entire political operation to crush Weiner and boost her chosen candidate, San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan, into office.

The scorched-earth campaign reached a new low when Pelosi accused Weiner of sexism by creating an AI chatbot to parody Chan.

“Women have spent generations fighting to have our own voices heard in the halls of power,” a letter signed by Pelosi and other female Democrat politicians read. “We should not have to fight against artificial intelligence putting words in our mouths.” 

Pelosi is a bare-knuckle political brawler, and she is leaving it all on the field to destroy Weiner.

Control over the Democrat Party fundraising operation was Pelosi’s biggest source of power when she led Democrats in the House.

And she deployed her money machine to fuel Chan’s campaign.

“Last week, the former speaker headlined a Capitol Hill fundraiser for Chan that raked in more than $117,000 in a single day, her team exclusively told Playbook. It’s the second six-figure event that Pelosi has hosted this month to help Chan reduce Wiener’s fundraising advantage,” POLITICO reported.

Pelosi also dispatched top aide Ian Krager to work on Chan’s campaign.

Wiener understands what he’s up against.

“Nancy has basically taken over Connie’s campaign,” Wiener said in an interview with POLITICO. “I’m running an independent campaign with enormous grassroots support, and no one has taken over my campaign.” 

But in a demonstration of how powerful and popular Pelosi is in San Francisco, Wiener could only express admiration for how Pelosi schemed to nuke his campaign.

“Nancy Pelosi, she plays for keeps. She’s a fighter, and that’s why we love her so much,” Wiener continued. “Obviously, I’m now on the receiving end … and that’s not pleasant. She can dunk on me over and over again, and I will still think the world of her.” 

The question about why Pelosi went all out to defeat Wiener had two answers.

First, Wiener angered Pelosi’s donors and supporters in construction and labor with a housing bill.

Second, Wiener announced he was running for Pelosi’s seat before Pelosi announced her retirement, a move that infuriated Pelosi’s allies.

And finally, Wiener running made it more difficult for Pelosi to anoint her daughter Christine as her hand-picked successor.

“Pelosi is the vintage powerbroker here,” a top labor organizer who endorsed Wiener told POLITICO. “Let’s be real about what this is: It’s more of a personal retribution. It’s about Pelosi being able to continue to broker power in San Francisco.”
