The latest allegation left Democrats reeling.
Their path to a majority took a major hit.

Democrats Pull the Switcheroo in Maine
Chuck Schumer and the Democrat Party establishment successfully ousted Senate challenger Graham Platner after Platner won the most primary votes of any Democrat in history through a coordinated attack of dubious “Me Too” allegations.
Party bigwigs didn’t want Platner, a self-described socialist, as their candidate to take on Maine incumbent Susan Collins.
Democrats quickly replaced Platner with State Senate President Troy Jackson.
It is difficult for Democrats to forge a path to winning the four seats necessary to claim a Senate majority without defeating Collins.
Democrats believed switching out the scandal-plagued Platner for Jackson would give them a fighting chance in the race.
But then the other shoe dropped.
Maine Democrat Senate Challenger Allegedly Has 2 Kids With His Second Cousin
The Maine Wire then dropped the bombshell that Jackson and his longtime partner Lana, whom he calls his “wife,” are second cousins that the couple has two children together,=.
“RELATIVE ATTRACTION: We can confirm that Troy Jackson and his longtime partner are second cousins. They have two children together,” the Maine Wire reported.
In addition to striking voters as weird and potentially disturbing, Townball’s Matt Vespa reported that this raised issues about Jackson’s financial disclosure forms since Maine requires financial disclosure forms for candidates and their spouses.
“The issue with Jackson is that while he may call Lana his wife. They’re not married, an arrangement that’s been an open secret in the Allagash enclave. Maine does not recognize common law marriage, so the now-mandatory financial disclosure forms for candidates might not shed full light on the subject,’ Vespa wrote.
This isn’t the first time Jackson’s finances came under scrutiny.
“Former Maine Senate President Troy Jackson, the Democrat on track to face U.S. Sen. Susan Collins in November, had to pay $4,600 in late state income taxes last year.
The longtime state lawmaker and logger from the Aroostook County town of Allagash was hit with a state tax lien last August over unpaid taxes dating back to 2020, according to Maine Revenue Services records. It was released two months later, in October, after he paid the debt that his campaign attributed to an error by his tax preparer,” the Bangor Daily News reported.
Jackson’s campaign tried to play it off as a bookkeeping error.
“An error made by Troy’s tax preparer in 2020 resulted in an underpayment that he was not made aware of until years later,” the campaign’s statement read. “Once he learned of it, he promptly paid the full amount and the lien was released.”
But questions about Jackson’s fitness for office will only continue to grow if the allegations that he’s had two kids with his second cousin prove true.
